Forensic CompetencyAn Examination of Incarcerated Inmates, Hospitalized Inmates, and DefendantsNorth Carolina Division of Prisons
Stonewall Jackson School Concord, North Carolina Samples from a state forensic hospital, a prison mental hospital, regular prison units, and the community were administered the Competency Screening Test. Significant test response differences were found between the two hospitalized groups as well as between the inmate mental health patients and the community volunteers. No significant differences were found between different psychodiagnostic categories. Recent trends in the mental health and judicial fields are discussed, as are possible implications for interpretations arising from the instrument's format.
